Saw Avatar with my brother tonight
     Good movie (not great)
There is a lot of eye candy in the film.
I can understand where the rumors surrounding a subversive political message are coming from.  If your looking for it, you will find it.
    comparable to Star Wars?....yeahno

The best way to summarize Avatar is shamelessly borrowed from rottentomatos.com:
"Its Dances With Wolves  in outer space"

    Christmas Report....
...Will be very very brief. XD. Didn't go anywhere at all this Christmas day as eastern Kansas over the last two days has gotten about a foot of snow, 3 degree temperature, high gusts of winds, etc. I can't even get out of our driveway as the neighborhood streets are covered up badly, so I just spent the Christmas day with my sweet wolf, so no complaints there of course. He got me Dustin Diamond's book "Behind The Bell" where the former Screech dishes on his former Saved By The Bell cast members. Make fun of me all you want, but I did watch that show constantly back in the day and these are the types of autobiographies that I love. XD. I got him a wolf calendar and an ITunes Gift Card. *hugs his wolf*

But this Christmas isn't over for me yet, as the current plans are to see my mom's relatives on Sunday, and then my dad's over New Year's Day weekend, unless it snows in that weekend too. ><

    Hope your holidays was good!

Oh right, I put that there...
I keep forgetting that I put flickery lights on the tree behind me, so whenever the screen goes dark because something is loading, I keep panicking because I think there's a fire behind me!!!

    Christmas 2009
Last night a bunch of friends came over to help me celebrate the winter holiday. Since [info]toob was in Arkansas visiting family, it was the perfect time to throw a wild and raucous party while the parents were out. :D

There was food and wine and Love Actually, which is a movie that just gets me almost every time in a completely different way. Liam Neeson carrying his wife's coffin out of the church to the tune of the Bay City Rollers choked me up a bit. It was absurd and funny, but the look of bewildered grief on his face... And when Colin Firth proposes to his Portugese maid in broken grade-school language-tape speak just made me so happy. It is a movie that shamelessly uses every rom-com cliche in the book, but its joy is infectious and it just sweeps you up. I'm definitely making this a Christmas tradition.

[info]toob hid presents all over the house for me to find on Christmas before he left, but I couldn't wait and everyone helped me with the scavenger hunt. They were rhyming clues that were fun and a little tricky; we ended up needing to use a thesaurus for the first one ("It could mean to steal or it could mean your face, but in this case it's something of Mat's that can easily break!"), and [info]andreal helped out with the last one. My dragon should really do more puzzles for people; he has a really great knack for it. Clever, tricksy dragon.

I got precisely what I asked for: clothes, books and a DS game. They were all really, really neat. My personal favorites are a purple flannel shirt, a Ravens Flacco jersey(!!!) and a signed first edition of Harlan Ellison's Deathbird Stories(!!!!!!! :D :D <3). I'm getting a decent, small collection of special edition books and it just makes me wiggle with glee!

Merry Christmas, everyone. Also, Happy Yule, Solid Kwanzaa, OK Festivus and Happy Chanukah. No matter what you're doing today (even if it's not something you would have preferred), please remember the loved ones in your life and the great things you have going for you. It's still not too late to have a good holiday. :)

    Finally
Another December 25th come and gone...and I don't see myself really giving a shit. This has been a particularly BAD season, and honestly, I'm finding myself wanting to skip it next year in the hopes that I'll be able to avoid this feeling like complete and absolute fail.

Like the rest of "proper" society is going to allow that.

I think I'm just getting worse...

    Christmas morning!!!
No, its not the same without a whole bunch of presents under a tree... but I ALSO don't have a house full of ear-splitting-high-decibel-screams coming from self-indulgent little rugrats as a 5:30 am alarm clock.

Instead, I've got a quiet and relatively clean house with a warm cup of coffee in my hands, a little jazz playing in the kitchen as I'm gonna be starting to cook in a few minutes, nowhere to drive to on some rigid schedule, and warm wishes from my friends.

    Even trade off, I'd say!

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

Online gaming - positive feedback, this time!
I'm far better at games where one poor player does NOT automatically mean their team will lose. (Often this is only inferred by the other players, and may not actually be true, but it sure feels like it)

I'm also better at games that are easy on the controls, and where I can see everything I need to see in one glance without having to pan around the edges of the screen.

Altitude is PERFECT for me. I get multiplayer that doesn't ever feel personal beyond the occasional grudge dogfight when I recognize the name of the pilot that keeps shooting me down... the re-spawn time is just a few seconds... the planes and the customizations are simplistic but effective enough to be useful... the controls are simple enough for an NES controller (not that I have one, but its a good measuring stick)... the game is very light on system resources so there's no lag... the solo training mode against bots has scalable difficulties and is actually useful for practice... and because there's little-to-no rage-based pressure from your randomly assigned teammates that you're not good enough...

... I've been able to not only enjoy the game, but become decent enough to occasionally get top rankings in some matches... usually for most assists, but I'll gladly take that.

    Fun While it Lasted
Seems as tho the local gas war has ended, with no survivors. Damage was great, and people are starting to dig out now. Even the Resistance seems to have gone into hiding; we hope they re-emerge soon with their rally cry: "Vive l'Essence Réduit!"

    ...
So what did I get for my quarter of a century birthday?

Kimmie got fired, I have to work 9 hours AT WALMART today, and I don't really get to enjoy what few hours I have after work because I have to be here at 9 tomorrow morning. I'm worried about Kimmie, about the friend who was under investigation for having CP on his computer (who has disappeared), and want to be outright violent towards anyone and anything that gets in my way today.

    Happy 25th Birthday, Micah.

For 1/2" of snow, they're plowing the streets? Let's see what happens when there's a foot of snow, like last year, when they didn't plow :P
